Review: Kat Von D Lock It Foundation

Kat Von D Foundation… the most full coverage and long lasting foundation?

I recently went to IMATS and came across the Kat Von D stand. The queue was insane, 40 minutes long insane, having to let only 3 people in at a time insane. At IMATS there is normally a discount for everyone who is there, so the foundation was not as expensive as it normally is in other retailers. At IMATS it was £18.50 (I believe) and it retails at £27 in Debenhams. So I went for it, I really didn’t need another foundation but it was calling for me.

I love Kat as a person, and I think she is very inspirational to a lot of people in the world. I love that her products are cruelty free and that is something that she is passionate about, and I had heard amazing reviews for this foundation, so I had to try it out myself.

A bit about the product

I thought I was a “full coverage whore” as Jeffree Star would say, but maybe not. This foundation is FULL coverage and extremely thick. Ive seen Zoella use it on more problem areas to cover spots which is a great idea if you suffer with bad breakouts or acne, or even put it over one spot to cover it. This foundation will not budge after it is set. I kid you not, when I have a bath normally I can trust it removes all of my makeup and leave me with panda eyes. This stuff does not come off. I set it with the RCMA no colour powder and you have to really scrub at your face to remove it. Which isn’t a bad thing in my opinion!

Claim:

“Creamy and pigmented, ‘Lock-It’ foundation is the only long-wear liquid formula we can count on to create a perfect canvas. With one pump it will even out discolouration, stop shine and hide blemishes, offering amazing coverage that’s so long-wear you can go a full 24 hours without re-applying. Formulated with proprietary pigments plus an exclusive blend of siliconic elastomers which bind the formula, it will stay flawless, fade-free and transfer-proof. The bottle also features an innovative airless chamber design that prevents contamination, maintains rich consistency and ensures a fresh, precisely measured dose with every pump.” – Debenhams

The Review

Like I said, I thought I was a full coverage queen, but I actually don’t like this foundation at all. It really makes my skin look dry and cracked and it sinks into all of my smile likes even when set. The coverage is amazing, but it makes my skin look worse around the nose and mouth than it actually is without makeup on.

I don’t know if its being too picky, but I hate it when my nose looks like this when I wear foundation!

I find the consistency too think to manage as well, its quite hard to apply evenly and quickly, even with a damp beauty blender that I guess should water the product down a bit. I have tried many foundations that claim the same as this Lock It foundation and I have used better ones than this from drugstore brands.

In my opinion, this is not worth the money. A good dupe is the Rimmel London 25 Hour Lasting Finish Foundation which retails around £8-9. I have been mixing the Rimmel and the Kat Von D foundation together for a super flawless look, and this makes my skin SO dewy I don’t actually want to powder it, but I have to because otherwise I look and feel like an oil slick.

Overall, if you suffer from bad skin, have scars or discolouration I think this foundation will be great to cover that, but I wouldn’t recommend it for already dry skin!

Hope this helps!
